Kaarta Gar-Up Lookout
Enjoy scenic city and river views from Kaarta Gar-up lookout just off Fraser Avenue.
Mooro Katta or Kaarta Gar-up are two of the many names for Mount Eliza, the highest point of Kings Park.
The Kaarta Gar-up Lookout was originally constructed in 1967 as a Main Roads Observation Platform to enable viewers to observe the progress of the Narrows Interchange construction. It later became the Education Centre, then the Aboriginal Art Gallery (now closed).
Nowadays this lookout offers unparalleled views of Perth city and both the Canning and Swan rivers, perfectly placed for visitors to take in iconic Perth scenery.
In 2024 the lookout was transformed by local artist Kamsani (Kam) Bin-Salleh. The contemporary Aboriginal artwork was commissioned to mark the beginning of 60th anniversary celebrations for the Western Australian Botanic Garden, which reaches this milestone in 2025.
