Urban Biodiversity and Fire Management
Management regimes in urban remnant bushland
Urban Biodiversity and Fire Management looks at hazard risk management strategies at Kings Park and the research conducted by Kings Park Science on the impact of different fire management activities on the natural environment. This program is intended to complement Fire: A Natural Hazard.
Students participate in activities relating to fire preparedness, mitigation and response. The use of firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and water points will be demonstrated. Join Kings Park Education to visit areas of natural bushland to study the impact of weeds on natural fire regimes.
Students will:
- Evaluate hazard risk management strategies implemented to reduce the impacts of the hazard, including mitigation and preparedness
- Discuss the environmental, economic and social impacts of the hazard
- Explain how the activities of humans intensified the impact of the hazard
- Learn the strategies of BGPA for management of Urban Bushland and the consequences to biodiversity
- Understand the role of fire as a regeneration tool
- Discuss importance of research, monitoring and experience in fire management
- Discuss interactions between fire and other types of disturbance such as weed invasion

Secondary School Programs (Years 7 to 12)
$12.50 per student
$187.50 minimum booking fee
