Notice: All water bodies in Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park will be non-operational from 5 September to mid-October to allow for essential maintenance works to take place. This includes Paperbark Creek. Naturescape remains open for play, with many other bush activities to enjoy, including the following free school holiday activities! 

Free self-guided activities

The following free self-guided activities will be running during the school holidays. Bookings are not required.

Please note, parents are responsible for their children at all times and are encouraged to join in on the fun!  

Kings Park Favourites
Date: Saturday 14 September – Sunday 6 October (closed Mondays)
Time: 9am - 4pm
Location: Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park

Kings Park Favourites are native plants selected by Kings Park horticulturists for their spectacular displays and resilience. There are eight Kings Park Favourites hidden within Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park. Can you find them all?

Enjoyed hunting for the Kings Park Favourites in Naturescape? Then head out on the Kings Park Favourites Trail, a pleasant 2km stroll around the Botanic Garden where you will find spectacular specimens of each Favourite on display. Don’t forget to collect your gumnut to vote for your top Kings Park Favourite at the Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park entrance.  

Loose Parts Bush Camp
Date: Saturday 21 September – Sunday 6 October (closed Mondays)
Time: 10am - 2pm
Location: Cubbies, Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park

Make your own cubby creations out of our ‘trash n treasure’!

Boorna Waanginy: Future Weaving Drop-in Activity 
Date: Tuesday 24 – Friday 27 September
Time: 10.30am – 1.30pm 
Location: Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park

Learn about the biodiversity of our environment and what you can do to care for it by participating in a beautiful weaving activity. Your woven art piece will form part of a large-scale light installation featured in Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak, during EverNow Festival in October. 

NOTE: This activity uses recycled materials. If you would like to contribute, please bring clean 2L milk containers, all stickers removed.

Mini Gardens for Rock Pets
Date: Tuesday 1 October & Friday 4 October
Time: 10.30am - 1.30pm
Location: Banksia Base, Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park

Paint yourself a rock pet, then make a cosy garden oasis for them to live.

Nature Naughts and Crosses
Date: Wednesday 2 October
Time: 10.30am - 1.30pm

Rock birds versus gumnut bees? Sticks versus stones? Let your imagination run wild and use a selection of natural materials to make yourself a set of this much-loved game.

Nature Weaving
Date: Thursday 3 October
Time: 10.30am - 1.30pm

Weave found bush treasures into a beautiful artwork and take home a momento of your Rio Tinto Naturescape Spring experience!
