Noongar Boodja turns four
2024 marked a big year for Noongar Boodja Six Seasons as the program entered its fourth year of delivery.
Fostering a sense of caring for Country and providing opportunities for children to better understand and engage with Noongar culture, the Noongar Boodja program has been an important part of Kings Park’s school education programming since it began.
Whilst the programming has evolved over its four years, these days Noongar Boodja runs in five mini-festivals, each focused on a different Noongar season (with two seasons presented together). Designed by a Noongar Educator, students in Years 1 to 6 participate in activities including art, craft, drama, dance, song, storytelling and play to fully immerse their senses in Noongar culture. Testament to the program’s popularity, all 2024 festivals were fully booked, with over 3,000 students participating.
What’s unique about Noongar Boodja is not just the program’s significant engagement of Aboriginal presenters and educators, but also the program’s outreach to many, thanks to support from Fugro.
Fugro, proud supporters of Noongar Boodja, sponsor low socio-economic schools to attend the program, making this cultural education accessible to those who may otherwise miss out. Fugro also enable their staff to support festival days in a volunteer capacity. Not only does this volunteer support help facilitate the program’s smooth delivery, it gives staff the opportunity to improve their own cultural knowledge along the way – a true win-win! 25 Fugro volunteers supported the program in 2024, alongside 49 other volunteers.
In total, 4,011 Western Australian students, teachers and volunteers benefited from the Noongar Boodja program in 2024, making it one of the largest programs of its kind in the state.
Noongar Boodja Six Seasons continues in 2025 with another jam-packed schedule of cultural activities on the seasonal topics of:
