Melaleuca huegellii

Chenille Honey Myrtle

Reaching a height of up to 3-4m, the Chenille Honey Myrtle is a dense evergreen shrub with very small leaves that hug the branches.

In late spring to early summer, pink flower buds open to beautiful cream brush like flowers.

This shrub is popular with native nectar feeding birds and is visited by a variety of native insect species, including bees, beetles and ants, who in turn pollinate the flowers.

Grow it at home

  • Prefers sandy, free draining soils.
  • Grows best in full sun.
  • Drought tolerant once established.
  • Suitable to coastal conditions.
  • When planting, fertilise with a granular slower release fertiliser that is low in Phosphorous and formulated for native plants.

Find it in Kings Park
